Background

The individual must be a clean energy specialist and will work closely with the Fund Manager in the development and execution of investment strategies for the Fund, monitoring compliance and risk associated with those activities; and reporting to the Advisory Committee/Investment Committee

Job Responsibilities

  • Familiarise with the Business Plan and should demonstrate ability to execute the Business Plan of the Fund
  • Identify and originate clean energy transactions in conformance with the eligibility criteria;
  • Lead credit appraisals/due diligence and structuring of potential transactions;
  • Oversee financial, commercial, risk, tax and legal due diligences on the investments and recommend appropriate course of action;
  • Prepare and present selected transactions to the Fund’s Advisory
  • Committee/Investment Committee;
  • Lead negotiations of commercial terms during transaction documentation;
  • Ensure funds’ investments generate high social and environmental impact, particularly the creation of new jobs;
  • Serve as the senior investment executive and expert in all aspects of Investment and Portfolio Management for the Fund, from ‘dealflow to execution;
  • Serve as a member of the Investment Committee and provide sound and fully supported recommendations and advice on the
  • investment mandates as well as execute formulated investment strategy by sourcing and underwriting transactions;
  • Monitor investments on a continuous basis and structure workouts
  • if there is credit deterioration;
  • Where applicable, hire an investment team to support the Fund, and act as the interim head in originating and structuring transactions
  • for the Fund;

Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, economics, finance, or a closely related field. A Master of Business Administration, CFA designation and/or similar graduate degree is desirable;
  • The equivalent of ten years increasingly responsible experience in the financial service industry with direct experience in institutional portfolio management and overseeing investments risk management and/or compliance functions for a public entity or private institution, pension fund, or endowment. Direct experience with portfolio level asset allocation, manager performance evaluation, risk management, and managing custodial relationships and experience working with investment consultants and advisors;
  • Demonstrated business development skills, including building sustainable client relationships;
  • Experience in raising capital from institutional investors and international development financial institutions for operating o
  • start-up companies/fund;
  • Equivalent of five to seven years’ experience in carrying out credit appraisals, structuring and portfolio management of on-grid and off-grid clean energy projects in Nigeria and West Africa;
  • Must be eligible for accreditation as a registered sponsored individual by the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC)
